Hello and welcome!
I’m Melissa J. Dixon, formerly a professional dancer, singer and actress who traveled the world performing and training others. Then I changed careers and earned a degree in English and communications.
Enter: the corporate world. The new challenges invigorated me. As did the promotions. And the idea of no longer needing to wear those dreaded tights every day.
For the past several years, I’ve worked in communications for giant corporations, small nonprofits and privately held companies across the globe.
The proud owner of a voracious appetite for learning (and chocolate fudge brownies … but I digress), I earned a master’s degree in strategic public relations from The George Washington University Graduate School of Political Management.
I’m most passionate about three things: my family, diversity/inclusion and coaching people to success.
A few of my favorite organizations in which I have participated/supported: Lean In Atlanta, IABC Atlanta, Mission 4 Movement, PRSA, GW’s alumni book club, Faith & Flyness, Yow Dance, Dafmark Dance and The BOSS Network.
A resource for students and aspiring performing artists
Because I receive a multitude of inquiries about the entertainment industry, I’ve enlisted the expertise of friends from around the globe to participate in an Ask the Entertainment Expert segment.
You’ll hear from casting directors, producers, choreographers, singers, actors, photographers, instrumentalists, stunt performers and more. It is my great pleasure to introduce you to their stories. I pray you walk away from them feeling informed, inspired and empowered to embark on a successful career in the performing arts.

My official performing-artist-turned-communications-choreographer transition started in 2007. A lot can happen in 10-plus years, and it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. This statement is a movement started by my son, Jaden A. Dixon. It keeps me focused, and I gift it to you. The greatest advice I can offer is to stick to your goals, no matter what comes your way, no matter what others are saying and doing, and no matter where you come from. You can have that which you truly want; you are responsible.
